From a real report
“Chapter VIII on movement is the clearest rupture. After the narrative warmth of Ogimi and the diet chapter, it becomes a catalogue of yoga types, tai chi styles, qigong’s ‘Tyau Shenn’ and step-by-step postures, and the Six Healing Sounds. The tie to ikigai is thin, and the chapter’s own admission, ‘It might feel confusing to be presented with all the Eastern traditions,’ confirms the overload.”
“Improvement: Open each chapter with a one-sentence bridge stating its link to ikigai…”
Who it's for
Marlowe is for novelists. Authors A.I. describes it as analytical AI for fiction: it reads your manuscript and compares its pacing, structure and dialogue with bestselling novels across 22 fiction genres and subgenres.[1]
Manuscript AI is for non-fiction (self-help, business, memoir, biography and research-based books), where the questions are about argument, evidence and how the chapters build.

What you get
Marlowe Pro covers plot and narrative arc, story elements and pacing, character development and consistency, conflict, theme, dialogue, setting and voice, with key recommendations and a revision checklist. It maps your book against structures such as the Hero's Journey, the Three-Act Structure and Save the Cat.[1][4]
Reports appear in an online dashboard; Authors A.I. says a full report would run to more than 70 pages. Marlowe Basic, the free report, covers line-level statistics such as dialogue versus narrative, sentence length, clichés and repeated words.[1][5]
Authors A.I. keeps manuscript files for as long as you subscribe or until you delete them. Your uploaded manuscript file is deleted automatically within 48 hours of your report being delivered, or within 48 hours of upload if you don't check out. We don't keep a copy of your manuscript text. Your report stays at your private link until you ask us to delete it. Both say they don't train AI on your manuscript.[1][6]

Non-fiction fit
“its real expertise and experience is primarily with fiction”
Authors A.I. says Marlowe can analyze any long-form narrative, including biographies, memoirs and histories, but describes its real expertise as fiction, and says Marlowe Basic was trained on bestselling fiction rather than non-fiction.[1][5]
So Marlowe may still help with a narrative memoir. For a prescriptive self-help or business book, plot, character and beat-sheet analysis doesn't map onto an argument-led book.
Manuscript AI: Built only for non-fiction: self-help, business, memoir, biography and research-based books. It doesn't analyze fiction.
Using both
There's little reason to use both on the same book: choose by genre. A narrative memoir is the one case where both can help, Marlowe for story arc and pacing and Manuscript AI for structure and readability chapter by chapter.
When to choose Marlowe instead
- You write fiction. Marlowe is built for it, and Manuscript AI doesn't analyze fiction at all.
- You want your story mapped against beat sheets such as Save the Cat or the Hero's Journey.[1]
- You'll run several reports a month: a subscription brings Marlowe's cost down to $3–5 a report.[1]
- You want marketing material too. Marlowe's Market Fit report produces comparable titles, book descriptions and keywords.[2]
What Manuscript AI doesn't do
- It doesn't analyze fiction.
- It doesn't edit your text: there are no tracked changes or line edits in your manuscript.
- It doesn't check facts or verify your citations.
- It's an AI report, not a human editor's judgment, and there's no follow-up call.
- It accepts Word documents (.docx) up to 16 MB only.
